Communicating research through empathy driven messaging

“The Latina Girls Empowerment Program at Julia de Burgos School” is a nurse led mentorship program for teen girls with the aim of helping them set higher goals for their future and find the self confidence to achieve them. In partnership with Jefferson Principal Investigator, Dr. Shawana Moore, we worked together to ensure that the poster concept highlights the positive impact that an investment in young girls through mentorship can have and that it communicates the unique aspect of the program (female nurse led mentorship).

In the illustrated phrase there are three key words (teacher, empowher, and leadher) that currently have a silent “h” or can be given an “h” without changing the meaning of the word. When the “h” is pronounced however, it gives the entire phrase a new meaning by making these words action words and by highlighting the “her” within. Through this approach, we are showing that the “H” is loud when teen girls are taught self esteem, self awareness, and self confidence — the ultimate goal of the empowerment program.
