Illustration Library Expansion

Creative Lead, Art Direction and Systems

About the project

Building an inclusive system
At Oscar, illustration is more than decoration, it’s a storytelling tool that brings our brand to life with empathy, warmth, and a sense of humanity. As part of a larger effort to ensure the brand reflects the diversity of our members, I led the expansion of our illustration library to be more inclusive, intentional, and adaptable. The process began with a comprehensive audit of our existing assets, identifying gaps in representation and opportunities to evolve our visual narratives. I then co-art directed illustrators via Franklyn, guiding the development of new assets.

When we realized our reliance on a single vendor limited creative flexibility, I created a formal illustration guideline system to help us scale. The documentation outlines not just style parameters, but the philosophy behind our visual storytelling—how we convey emotional nuance through posture, eye contact, and human connection. With this foundation in place, Oscar can now confidently commission new work across illustrators, while maintaining consistency, clarity, and care.
